Getting started

Which devices does GearDomain run on?

iPhone, Android and the web. The web app is open now at app.geardomain.app. The iPhone and Android apps are coming soon to the App Store and Google Play.

Does it work without signal?

Yes. Changes are saved on the phone first and sync when it is back online. Talk to Inventory reads lists on the phone too, with the same rules.

Do I need special hardware?

No. The phone camera scans the QR labels, and label sheets print as PDFs. NFC tags are optional, on Android phones that have NFC.

Labels and scanning

How do I label my gear?

Print label sheets as PDFs and stick one label on each item. Scan a label with the phone camera and that item opens.

What is NFC for?

NFC tags are an option alongside QR labels on Android phones that have NFC. QR labels work with any phone camera, so you never need NFC.

Talk to Inventory

What does Talk to Inventory do?

You say or type a list of gear, and each item becomes a card with its name, quantity and category. You check the cards, then import the whole list at once.

For example, “We’ve got two C-stands, four sandbags, and a Kessler slider” gives C-stands ×2, sandbags ×4 and a Kessler slider.

Does it use a language model?

No. It uses fixed reading rules and a gear catalog, so the same sentence always gives the same cards. It never guesses a brand or model: those are filled only from a recognised catalog match.

Dictation is your keyboard’s feature. GearDomain never records audio itself.

Crew, kits and bookings

Can my whole crew use it?

Yes. Invite crew members to your organization. People can also ask for gear through a shared request link.

How do check-outs work?

You check an item out to a crew member, who signs on the screen. You can add condition photos. When it comes back, you check it in, and the inventory shows who has what.

What is a kit?

A group of items that travel together. You check the whole kit out, or back in, in one go.

Can two people book the same item?

Not for the same time. Reservations use a calendar that refuses overlapping bookings.

Lost gear

What happens when someone finds a labelled item?

They scan its label with their phone camera and see a found-item page where they can tell the owner. They need no app and no account.

In GearDomain, you can mark the item lost or stolen.
