Talk to Inventory in four steps.

  1. Say or type your gear

Talk the way you would to a person, or put each item on its own line.

  2. Tap READ LIST

    Each item becomes a card.

  3. Check the cards

Each card shows the name, quantity and category. Tap another category to correct it.

  4. Tap IMPORT

Once, for the whole list. Then scan a QR label for each new item.

Nothing is guessed. Brand and model are filled only from a recognised match in the GearDomain gear catalog. Anything else you know, such as a serial or notes, is yours to add.

Say it like this

Eight lines, and what they become.

Topics

The details, when you need them.

Open a topic for the rules and an example or two.

CountsSay or type how many. Up to 50 on a line.
  • Use a lowercase x: 2x Sandbag means two. A quantity of N creates N separate items.
  • Number words work from one to ninety-nine: twenty five apple boxes.
  • A typed number from 2 to 99 counts a plural name after it: 10 C-stands is ten. A numbered list is the exception (see Typing or pasting a list).
  • A size, a spec, a focal length or a brand that starts with a number stays in the name: 24-70 lens is one item.
  • A number before a unit word such as foot, pound or gig is a size: We have 64 gig cards is one card.
  • Not counts: the × sign, an uppercase X and parentheses. 2 × Sandbag stays one item.

Examples

  • We have C-stands, twelvebecomesTwelve C-stands.
  • We have 4 C-stands and 6 sandbags, total of 10becomesFour C-stands and six sandbags. “total of 10” waits on Left out.
Typing or pasting a listOne item per line. Bullets, numbers and checkboxes are dropped.
  • Put each item on its own line. A typed line with no sign of speech is read as you wrote it: Tripod and Sandbag stays one card.
  • To split a typed line, use “and a” or start a new line: Sony FX3 and a Canon C70 gives two cards.
  • A bullet or number at the start of a line is dropped: 1. Sony FX3 is a Sony FX3 card.
  • A checklist mark is dropped too, ticked or not: [x] Sony FX3 is a Sony FX3 card.
  • When three or more lines start 1, 2, 3 in order, each number is the line’s place in the list, not a count.
  • Wrap a line in double quotes to keep it exactly: "2x Tripod" is one item named 2x Tripod.

Examples

  • 4 SandbagsbecomesFour sandbags: a typed count in front of a plural name counts it.
  • Zeiss Super Speeds 18, 25, 35, 50, 85 MkIIIbecomesOne item, as written.
Serial numbersAdd sn, s/n, serial or # after the item.
  • Type it after the item: Tripod sn 00123. s/n, “serial” and # work too.
  • Without a colon, the serial needs at least three characters with a digit in them. After #, three characters are enough.
  • For a short or all-letter serial, use a colon: Adapter sn: 12.
  • Several serials on a counted card split it into single cards, one serial each.
  • A serial over 80 characters is cut, and the card warns.

Examples

  • I have a Sony FX3 serial number 44 11 223becomesKeeps 4411223 on the Sony FX3.
  • We have 2 Aputure 600ds, serial 6D001 and 6D002becomesTwo Aputure 600ds cards, the first with 6D001 and the second with 6D002.
CategoriesPicked for you from the words. End with a comma to set one.
  • Picked from the words: a lens shape such as 20 mm 1.8 gives Lens, a camera name such as FX3 gives Camera.
  • When a catalog match is applied, the match’s category is used instead.
  • When nothing fits, the card is Other.
  • To set one yourself, end with a comma and a category: Tripod, grip.
  • An unknown short word offers a new category on the review: Tripod, drones offers NEW CATEGORY · Drones.

Examples

  • I have two powered speakers, audiobecomesPowered speakers ×2 in Audio.
Model names and labelsNames keep their letters, numbers and suffixes.
  • Model names keep their letters, numbers and suffixes: Atomos Ninja V+.
  • Sony FX3 #2 stays a name, not a serial.
  • Labels such as A cam and B cam are part of the name. Put the brand first to help catalog recognition.

Examples

  • DJI Goggles 2becomesOne item: a number after a word that is not a plural stays in the name.
What gets left out, and whyTalk that is not gear is dropped. Anything that could be gear waits on the Left out line.
  • Talk that is not gear never becomes a card.
  • When a phrase could be gear, it waits on the review’s Left out line instead of being lost.
  • Gear you no longer have, or do not own yet, waits there too.
  • Saying an item again is not a new item, and a question is not an item.
  • Tap ADD AS ITEM to turn a phrase into a card. A phrase you do not add is not imported, and it never blocks IMPORT.

Examples

  • I have some gaffer tape and a Sony FX3becomesA Sony FX3 card. “gaffer tape” waits on Left out.
  • Do we have a slider? Yes we have a Kessler slider.becomesOne card, Kessler slider. “slider” waits on Left out.
Limits300 characters a line, 4,000 a list, 200 items an import.
  • Keep each line within 300 characters and the list within 4,000.
  • A longer item is cut at 300 characters, and its card warns.
  • Only the first 200 nonempty lines are read, and at most 200 items are kept.
  • One import holds at most 200 items, counting every quantity: four cards of 50 fill it.
  • Above 200, IMPORT stays blocked until you remove some or split the list.

Examples

  • 51x SandbagbecomesReduced to 50, and the card warns “quantity capped at 50. Add another line for more.”
OfflineThe phone reads the list itself, with the same rules.
  • The phone reads the list itself, with the same rules: the same sentence gives the same cards.
  • Imported items are saved on the phone and uploaded when the connection returns.
  • Sync then fills empty brand, model and catalog-match fields, and the category while it is still Other, where it recognises the item.
  • Your saved items and edits are kept.
Dictation tipsUse your keyboard’s microphone, then glance at the text.
  • Use the keyboard’s microphone and talk normally.
  • Dictation is your keyboard’s feature, not GearDomain’s, so glance at the text before READ LIST.
  • GearDomain never records audio itself.
  • Phone dictation sometimes writes a count as a word that sounds the same. Right after “have” or “and”, and right before a plural item, “for” is read as 4 and “to” or “too” as 2. The card says so, so you can check it.
  • Other talk stays as said: I have to check the truck counts nothing. A typed line is never changed this way.

Examples

  • I have for C standsbecomesReads four C stands, and the card says Read “for” as 4.
Review before importCheck each card, fix what is wrong, then IMPORT once.
  • Each card shows the item’s name, quantity and category, with a small line saying where the category came from.
  • Tap another category to correct it.
  • Brand, model, serial and notes show only when they have a value. Tap ADD DETAILS to fill in the empty ones.
  • CATALOG MATCH means brand, model and category come from the catalog. REMOVE MATCH undoes it; USE MATCH puts it back.
  • A category you typed or picked yourself is never changed by a match.
  • Check every card, then tap IMPORT once for the whole list and continue to labels.
